Description
Mezcal is a traditional Mexican spirit made from agave, and this particular one is a Joven mezcal, meaning it is unaged and clear. It is crafted from 100% Espadín agave, a common and sustainable variety, and is produced in Oaxaca, Mexico, mainly in the Santiago Matatlán and Tlacolula valleys. The agave hearts are slowly roasted in underground ovens, which gives the mezcal its signature balanced smoky flavor. After roasting, it is usually double distilled in small copper pot stills, preserving the rich, natural character of the agave. Bottled at 40% ABV (80 proof), it comes in a 750ml bottle and offers an inviting aroma of smoky agave, eucalyptus, fresh citrus, and minerals. On the palate, it is smooth and agave-forward, with subtle hints of green apple, white pepper, and tropical fruit, and it finishes clean, balanced, lightly smoky, and with gentle warmth.Mezcal is versatile, making it perfect for cocktails like a Mezcal Margarita or for sipping neat. The brand Ilegal Mezcal, founded by John Rexer to supply his bar in Guatemala, draws inspiration from the secret transport of mezcal, hence its name. The brand emphasizes quality, tradition, and sustainability, using no artificial colors, flavors, or additives, making each sip authentic and memorable.
