Description
Old Ezra 7 Year Rye is a premium rye whiskey release from the Ezra Brooks / Lux Row portfolio. It is aged forseven years and bottled at 114 proof (57% ABV). The whiskey blends two rye mash bills — one with 51% rye and another with 95% rye — to balance bold rye character with approachability. It’s charcoal filtered for smoothness, and distributed in a distinctive, elevated bottle with gold and copper foil accents.
TASTING PROFILE
APPEARANCE
Rich amber with reddish hues, showing depth and maturity beyond youth.
AROMA / NOSE
The nose offers a mix of oak and earthy rye spice, complemented by hints of sweet caramel, vanilla, and subtle tobacco or dark wood. A touch of sugary fruit — think candied citrus or dark cherry — can emerge with aeration.
PALATE / FLAVOR
Smooth and rich on the palate, you’ll find a base of spiced honey or toffee, layered with rye spice (pepper, clove), dark fruits, and oak. The blend of mash bills brings complexity — the higher rye portion gives classic rye bite, while the lower rye bill softens and adds dimension. Vanilla and caramel notes help anchor the flavor.
FINISH
Long and warm, with lingering rye spice, oak char, and a subtle sweetness. The spice holds through, but never overwhelms, tapering toward a gentle echo of caramel or dried fruit.
CHARACTER & SERVING SUGGESTIONS
- Neat or with a drop of water: Best enjoyed slowly so the layers open gradually.
- Cocktails: Will elevate rye-forward cocktails like the Manhattan, Old Fashioned, or Sazerac, adding depth without dominating.
- Glassware: Use a tulip, Glencairn, or snifter-style glass to concentrate aromas.
- Pairings: Works well with dark chocolate, smoked meats, strong cheeses, or dessert with rye or spice character.
